Province Competitions
Season 2019/20
West Fife Province Competitions

This league was yet again won by Bank of Scotland with 10 points. Dunfermline ended up falling to 4th place on 8 points. Disappointing given we play our Thistle rinks.

Having entered 2 teams Hamish Geyer’s rink lost in the semi-final to Bank of Scotland. The competition was won by Boreland defeating Bank of Scotland by 10 shots to 3.

Closing Bonspiel
This took place on 11 March. The quality of ice did not help the 2 rinks representing the Club and the least said about the results the better (One rink won the other didn’t)!! Dalgety Bay was the winning club being 20 shots up.
Zermatt
The annual competition between West of Fife Province and East of Fife Province was played on 4 December 2019 at Kirkcaldy Ice Rink. West of Fife Province won overall with Dunfermline who played against Hercules Ladies being their highest up rink (15 shots to 0 Tut, Tut.). The Dunfermline rink of A Marshall, A Noble, A Rae, and M Quinn would have been presented with the trophy at the postponed Area 10 AGM. The Province secretary is however still in possession of the trophy.
Waldie – Griffith Inter Province Cup
West Fife were drawn against Breadalbane. The Dunfermline rink of Robbie Stevenson, J Barr, Derek Laird and R Park won their game 16 shots to 2. Season 2018/19
Closing Bonspiel Bonspiel
This took place on 13 March. The quality of ice at Fife Ice Arena did not help the 2 rinks represented and the least said about the results the better!! Raith and Abbotshall was the winning club.

Mixed K.O.
Dunfermline lost to Boreland in the semi-final. The competition was won by Raith and Abbotshall by 11 shots to 5.
Pairs
The Club was represented in this competition by Stewart Barr and A Rae as club pairs winners last season. Having beaten Dalgety Bay and Raith & Abbotshall they duly found themselves facing Aberdour in the final. Our lads went into an early lead by taking 5 shots at the first end, then ones in second and third ends. Seven down at this stage in pairs and very difficult to come back from but Aberdour did take 2 shots in 4th, 5th and 6th end – squeaky bum time!! All was not lost and Dunfermline took 1 shot in the last end winning 8 shots to 6. Well done to Stewart and Albert. I understand they will be allowed to defend their ‘crown’ next season.

It went right to the wire in that the last game was against B of S who beat Fraser’s Thistle rink by 10 shots to 4. There was a complaint made by one of the Dunfermline rink members that at least the skip should have been made aware of the importance of a win in this last game. This criticism will be taken on board by the committee.
Mixed K.O.
Two rinks were entered this season with skips, A Noble and F Thomson selecting their rinks. Fraser’s rink progressed to the final but was beaten in a close contest with Boreland 9 shots to 8.

After that Dunfermline were always in control although there were some good shots from both teams. Hands were shaken after the 7th end. Dunfermline’s winning team was skipped by M. Silvera with D.
