The final of the Centenary Plaque was contested on 19th February between Jim Barr’s rink and Derek Laird’s rink. Derek got of to a quick lead with a 6 in the first end and Team Jim Barr could not recover. The winning rink by 11 shots to 7 was Derek Laird, Scott Barr, Ian Simpson and Robin Ferguson.
Dow Medal
Grant and team were in control for almost the entire game stretching the lead to 3 shots going into the last end with 5 ends already won some skips would have had enough. Scott chose to play a final end needing a four for a win they had nothing to lose and the big shots all seemed to come off (with a big piece of luck on the last shot of the game). Grants shot in the four foot suddenly disappeared even though there was a wall of granite protecting it and the insurance extra shots Grant was lying all got taken out by the debris of stone. Lo and behold Scott had his four and the Dow medal title !
Congatulations to the winners Scott Barr, Jim Stevenson, Alistair Noble and Alan Kininmonth !

A good entry of 12 teams contested this competition. After many good victories along the way the final was a repeat of last year – nearly – with Jim Barr and Graeme Rae taking on the Barr boys of Grant and Craig on 23 February. After 3 ends Jim was 3 shots up but lost a 5 in the fourth end with this lead being extended by the last end resulting in victory for the ’boys’ over their dad by 8 shots to 5. Yet again out Junior members are showing the ability to teach us adults a thing or two. Congratulations to Grant and Craig.
