Dunfermline Curling Club

The Royal Caledonian Curling Club

About Us

Dunfermline CurlingClub is one of the oldest CurlingClubs [Instituted 1738] in the world.
The Club, according to ‘The History of Curling‘ by John Kerr, MA. FSA Scot,  ‘ought in our estimation to be held in honourable remembrance because it was the earliest to recognise the necessity of having a chaplain among the office-bearers, and to ‘William Peebles’ belongs the honour of having been the first spiritual adviser of any curling club.’

The Club has on average fifty members either working or retired from local firms.
Many of our Members come from a long line of farmers.   This is somewhat historical, as the pursuit of curling was a rural pastime, played on frozen ponds on agricultural land.   Farmers were free to enjoy this sport/hobby at a quieter time in their annual season.
Apart from our own internal Thistle League played throughout the six month season [September – March], the Club also participates in internal knockouts and Bonspiels with our Neighbouring Clubs, where there exists historical competition and rivalry.
In recent seasons some Members have competed in National Competitions and have won and been runners up in the National Masters/Seniors/Grand Masters Finals at Greenacres. Some members have represented West Fife Province in the National Province Championships and have won on at least 3 ocassions.

Our Club is always open to both experienced and novice curlers and if interested in making contact please follow the web page links. Supervision and coaching is provided for novice curlers.
