Season 2022/23

Rink Championship

Dunfermline won the Kinross qualifier for the rink championship finals.

Winners of the Kinross Rink Championship  were Allan Marshall, Fraser Thomson, Scott Barr and Jim Barr.

Tulliallan Bonspiel

This was won by Grant Barr, Jim Barr, Stuart Rennie and Russell Wood.

Dunfermline v Boreland

This resulted in three defeats.

Dunfermline v Inverkeithing Bonspiel was won by Dunfermline

Jamie Stevenson, Jim Barr, Dave Mercer and Colin Low were victorious.

Neighbouring Clubs Bonspiel

The Neighbouring Clubs bonspiel was regained, with Stewart Barr, Craig Barr, Ian Simpson and Russell Wood beating Aberdour 16-1 to lift the cup.

Dunfermline v Broomhall (Black Trophy)

This was won 12-7 by Dave Thomson, Alan Mitchell, Jim Barr and Gav Hardie. Against Broomhall’s Colin Bruce.

 The Orwell Bonspiel

The usual tough encounter against Orwell ended up with a draw overall on shots. One Win and a draw each. Dunfermline retained the quaich as last years winners.

Derek Laird’s rink of Jamie Stevenson, Mac Rennie and Gav Hardie lifted the trophy after defeating Sandy Hay’s Rink.

Mixed Bonspiel

The winners were Allan Marshall, Jane Barr, Gav Hardie and Mary Lamont.

Dunfermline v Markinch

The Shaw trophy was retained by Dunfermline winning rink being Andrew Johnston, Alistair Noble, Robin Ferguson and James Buchanan.

John Stewart Double Rink K.O.

An Early departure for us on this occasion.

District Medal

Two wins secured a medal against Penicuik. Skips were Hamish Geyer and Stewart Barr. A very enjoyable evening was had by all. Apparently.

The Burt and Graham

A considerable shot difference 61-39 ensured Dunfermline brought back the cup after the last two occasions. Winning rink Derek Laird, Scott Barr, Andrew Johnston and Eddie McFarlane by 11-3.

SEASON 2019/20
Dunfermline v Kinross – Burt and Graham
Congratulations go to kinross for managing to stop Dunfermline winning the Burt & Graham for the forth year in a row. A rollercoaster evening, one minute we were sober, the next we weren’t. Kinross led then Dunfermline fought back to eventually lose in the last ends of the second session.

Dunfermline v Markinch
Who is this superhero? Sarge? No. Rosemary, the telephone operator? No. Jim the multi-Bonspeil winner? Could be. Markinch 12-32 Dunfermline, a sound victory for Dunfermline. The winning team was Hong Kong Jim, Derek Laird, Steady Eddie and Hansen the decent curler in the family Low.

Dunfermline v Broomhall
Our annual match against neighbours Broomhall cc took place on 17th January with Dunfermline finishing comprehensive winners 23-9. Winning rink seen below receiving the trophy from Broomhall president Ian Duffin is Skip Hamish Geyer, Alan marshall, John Mclean and Willie Scott.

Dunfermline v Orwell
Friendly but very competitive match played across 3 sheets on 14th January.
Dunfermline winning by 1 shot to bring back the trophy although Orwell forgot to bring it with them !

Neighbouring Clubs Bonspiel
Played at Kinross on 9th January. 8 Rinks from Dunfermline played against 8 invited clubs with Dunfermline once again finishing strongly with 69 shots to the neighbours 35 shots. All Dunfermline rinks won except Robbie who peeled. The winning rink was Jim Barr, Stuart Rennie, Craig Barr and Grant Stewart who defeated Dunfermline Ladies. Inverkeithing Match
This match was played on 24th November in the usual competitive but friendly spirit Dunfermline eventually winning all 4 games. Highest up winning Rink was team Jim Barr. Jim below being presented with the silverware by Inverkeithing president Bill Galloway. His team from left to right Stuart Rennie, Colin Low and Alan Marshall.

Boreland Match

SEASON 2018/19

Dunfermline v Markinch
Congratulations to Dave Thomson’s rink for being highest up rink on the winning side in the 50th Anniversary Bonspiel against Markinch for the D H Shaw Trophy played on 15 March. The players were presented with a box of chocolates from the Markinch President.

Dunfermline v Kinross
This annual match took place on 8 March. A steady performance in the first session with only 1 loss (Although aided by 4 shots as 1 Kinross rink had only 3 players)
Things started to go Kinross’s way in the early part of the second session until the fourth end when there was a 13 shot swing to Dunfermline.
After that Dunfermline continued to pull away and finished some 16 shots clear at the end.(67-51)
Winning rink was Martin Silvera, Craig Barr, Ken Young and Jimmy Lindsay who despite being 6 -0 down after 3 ends turned it around to finish 14 -7. Well done Martin and his team and to all concerned.

Dunfermline v KCDC.
This took place 3 February with Dunfermline running out comfortable winners 12 shots to 3 but it was closer than it sounds. We got a 5 at the first end, then we traded 1s and 2s for the next 4 ends, making it 8-3 after 5 ends. We won 2s at the 6th & 7th ends to make it 12-3. The rink was J McLean (Skip), D Ritchie, J Craig, E McFarlane.
Were there females in the rink? Were the men already signed up for permanent clubs?

Dunfermline v Broomhall
Our annual bonspiel against Broomhall (Black Trophy) took place on the 18th January. Both Dunfermline rinks won with the rink of Jim Barr(skip), Robin Park, Willie Scott & Jimmy Lindsay being the highest up. Overall score was Dunfermline 16. Broomhall 9. An enjoyable evening with the wheelie bin joke getting another outing.

Dunfermline v Orwell
This match took place on 15 January with 3 Dunfermline rinks participating. Dunfermline lost the match by 22 shots to 20. This is the only back to back win for Orwell since the inception of the match!!

Neighbouring Clubs Bonspiel
This took place at Kinross on 10 January with 2 back to back sessions – 6.00 & 8.20. Dunfermline continued their winning ways! The first session resulted in Dunfermline being 12 shots up and the second session rinks were 8 shots up ensuring the Dunfermline win by 58 shots to 38. The results were: 6.00 Session – J Barr 7 Aberdour 6, D Templeton 6 Boreland 3, R Stevenson 7 BoS 5, D Thomson 10 Tullialan 4, 8.20 session F Thomson 11 Broomhall 3, M Silvera 6 Inverkeithing 6, S Barr 4 Dalgety Bay 6, H Geyer 7 Dunfermline Ladies 5.

Boreland Match
Congratulations to Dunfermline beating Boreland 3-0 on 21 November. Robbie Stevenson 6-4 Bill Linton, Jim Barr 9-6 David Linton and Stewart Barr 15-1 Bob Anderson winning rink Stewart Barr, Derek Laird, Albert Rae and Alec Bowie.

Inverkeithing Match
Winners of the match against Inverkeithing on 18 November was Dunfermline. Winning rink was Dougie Templeton, Rab Stevenson, Colin Low and John Geyer – overall score Dunfermline 38-14 Inverkeithing Enjoyable evening was had by all

SEASON 2017/18
Burt & Graham Trophy Dunfermline v Kinross
This season’s match was played on 9 March – the usual 4 rinks per session. The first session left the second session with a 5 shot advantage (Kinross 24 shots – Dunfermline 29 shots) However the second session guys did not do so well being 4 shots down! (Kinross 32 shots – Dunfermline 28 shots) This was our second consecutive win by the lowest of a 1 shot margins!
The highest up Dunfermline rink was skipped by Martin Silvera. Congratulations to Martin, ably supported by RB Stevenson, R Park and R Wood. Kinross remembered to bring along the trophy with it being duly presented to Martin by President Jim Barr. Martin duly filled the quaich and it was passed round participant fellow curlers.
With the sad news that Andy Stevenson had died a minute’s silence was observed at the end of the match as a mark of respect.

Dunfermline v Kinross Virtual Club.
A Dunfermline rink (D Ritchie Skip, A Johnston Third, A Kininmonth Second and C Gove Lead) took on a rink from KCDC on Saturday 4th February at Kinross. The result was a victory for Dunfermline by 12 shots to 4. Dunfermline romped ahead before trying to make sure KCDC got a shot in the 5th. KCDC obviously rallied a bit winning 2 ends but the damage was already done. No future members again! Seems they get picked off by other clubs that supply coaches to the Try Curling events. We now have a good spread of younger members who could give consideration to becoming coaches!!

Dunfermline v Broomhall
Only 2 rinks required on 19 January. Dunfermline managed to win the match by 21 shots to 9. The scores were J Barr 11 Ian Duffin 5, R Stevenson 10 J Duncan 4. Congratulations to J Barr (Skip), S Rennie, A Noble and A Rae.

Dunfermline v Orwell
This match took place on Tuesday 16 January with 3 Dunfermline rinks participating. Dunfermline lost the match by 22 shots to 20. The results were D Thomson 10 Jim Brownlie 5, J Barr 5 Ian Robertson 12 and A Barr 5 Sandy Hay 5. Trophy was presented to Ian Robertson as winning Skip.

Neighbouring Clubs Bonspiel
This took place at Kinross on 11 January with 2 back to back sessions – 6.00 & 8.20. Dunfermline continued their winning ways! The first session resulted in Dunfermline being 21 shots up and the second session rinks were 28 shots up ensuring the Dunfermline win by 78 shots to 29. The results were: 6.00 Session – J Barr 10 Aberdour 3, R Stevenson 10 BoS 4, S Barr 8 Boreland 5, M Silvera 11 Tulliallan 6. 8.20 Session – D Templeton 5 Inverkeithing 2, F Thomson 8 Broomhall 3, D Thomson 14 Dalgety Bay 3, Jim Stevenson 12 Dunfermline Ladies 3.

Dunfermline v Boreland
This match took place on 22 November. This year as with the earlier matches normal service was resumed. Dunfermline won by 17 shots (27-10) The scores were J Barr 8 Bill Linton 2, F Thomson 9 Bob Anderson 5 and finally Congratulations to the highest up rink of G Barr (S), K Young, G Rae
and Ian Simpson 10 shots to Steve Jamieson’s 3 shots. Well done Grant’s rink.

Dunfermline v Inverkeithing
The game was played on 19 November. Normal service being resumed last season with a win by 14 shots and we won again this season by 16 shots. The results were F Thomson 3 P Barton 10, S Barr 7 D Murray 7, J Barr 12 A Low 1 and R Stevenson 14 B Tait 2.

Dunfermline v Markinch
This match was played at Kinross on 27 October. The match finished with Dunfermline winning comprehensively by 38 shots to 11. The individual results were J Barr 7 Kenny Wilson 5, Derek Laird 12 Ron Filsell 1, D Thomson 6 Aly Ewan 4 and highest up rink for Dunfermline was J Stevenson (S), A Barr, G Rae and R Ferguson 13 shots against Ian Sankey’s 1 shot. Congratulations to Jim’s rink.

SEASON 2016/17

Burt & Graham Trophy Dunfermline v Kinross
This season’s match was played on 10 March – the usual 4 rinks per session. The first session left the second session with a lot to do (Kinross 27 shots – Dunfermline 17 shots) However staring adversity in the face the second session guys did the business! (Kinross 19 shots – Dunfermline 31 shots) This was our first win for some time!
The winning Dunfermline rink was skipped by D Thomson and won on ends after being 8 shots up peeling with S Barr’s rink. No presentation of the trophy took place as it was, supposedly being engraved. Congratulations to the highest up rink on winning side of D Thomson, Derek Laird, A Mitchell and E McFarlane.

Dunfermline v Kinross Virtual Club
A Dunfermline rink (John Craig Skip, Stuart Rennie Third, Alastair Noble Second and Doug Ritchie Lead) took on a mixed rink from KCDC on Saturday 11th February at 3pm in Kinross. Skip John “The Destroyer” Craig was clearly a man on a mission racking up 9 shots in 3 ends with no reply, a brief lapse in the fourth end gave the KCDC opposition a faint glimmer of hope however this was short-lived as Dunfermline scored another 14 shots over the remaining 4 ends. While this may seem unsporting by Dunfermline it was just one of those games when if you are up you’re up and when you’re down you’re down. The only negative was the game failed in its mission to recruit new members with KCDC fielding a mixed team (2 Men & 2 Women) and both men already having new clubs to go to. They were however good company on and off the ice!

Dunfermline v Broomhall
Unfortunately, on 20 January, Broomhall could again only field 2 rinks. Dunfermline managed to win the match by 25 shots to 8. The scores were S Barr 13 Ian McFarlane 6 and R Stevenson 12 Ian Duffin 2. Congratulations to Robbie’s rink of D Templeton, W Scott and J Geyer.

Dunfermline v Orwell
This match took place on Tuesday 17 January with 3 Dunfermline rinks participating. Dunfermline won the match by 23 shots to 16. The results were R Stevenson 5 Willie Stevenson 5, D Templeton 13 J Brownlie 6 and finally G Barr 5 Ian Robertson 5. Congratulations to Doug’s rink of J Barr, A Noble and RB Stevenson. Robert played lead stones and took the head.

Dunfermline v Kinross Virtual Club
This game was played on 16 January with a view to attracting new members. Unfortunately, the rink was mixed again and had only 1 male in it. This defeats the whole purpose in attracting members and unless we can be guaranteed a male rink we should not play. It must be said the ice was terrible albeit it was an outside sheet. Dunfermline won 15 shots to 2 with the usual camaraderie and banter being enjoyed. The rink was K Kilgour (skip), A Rae (3rd), R Park (2nd) and A Noble (lead).

Dunfermline v Markinch
This match was played at Perth on 13 January as Kinross could not give us 4 rinks on a Friday night. An additional Dunfermline rink competed this year making 4. The match finished with Dunfermline winning comprehensively by 41 shots to 17. The individual results were R Stevenson 7 Kenny Wilson 3, D Templeton 13 Alan Vallance 4, J Barr 17 K Wilson 2 and S Barr 4 R Wilson 8. Congratulations to highest up rink on winning side which was J Barr, W Scott, A Rae, and I Simpson.

This took place at Kinross on 12 January with 2 back to back sessions – 6.00 & 8.20. Dunfermline continued their winning ways! The first session resulted in Dunfermline being 9 shots up and the second session rinks were 15 shots up ensuring the Dunfermline win by 64 shots to 40. The results were: 6.00 Session – D Thomson 9 Tulliallan 4, J Barr 8 Aberdour 8, R Stevenson 7 Bank of Scotland 7 and D Templeton 9 Boreland 4. 8.20 Session – G Barr 4 Broomhall 8, M Silvera 8 Inverkeithing 4, R B Stevenson 11 Dunfermline Ladies 1 and Jamie Stevenson 9 Dalgety Bay 4. Congratulations to the highest up Dunfermline rink of Rab Stevenson, H Geyer, J Craig and A Rae.

Dunfermline v Boreland
This match took place on 23 November. This year as with the Dunfermline match normal service was resumed. Dunfermline won by 11 shots (31 -20) The scores were J Barr 15 S Jamieson 4, G Barr 9 B Linton 7 and finally F Thomson 7 D Linton 6. Congratulations to the highest up rink of J Barr, S Barr, W Scott and Albert Rae.

Dunfermline v Inverkeithing
Played on 20 November and it was important not to be humiliated as we were last season losing by 19 shots. Indeed, normal service was resumed and we won the match by 34 shots to 20! The results were F Thomson 13 B Tait 4, G Barr 6 D Murray 8, R Stevenson 8 G Hughes 3 and finally S Barr 7 P Barton 5.

SEASON 2015/16

Burt & Graham Trophy Dunfermline v Kinross
This season’s match was played on 11 March – the usual 4 rinks per session. The first session left the second session a mountain to climb (Kinross 35 shots – Dunfermline 16 shots) Just when we thought matters couldn’t get any worse – they did!! The second session lot didn’t cover themselves in glory either (Kinross 31 shots – Dunfermline 20 shots) All in all the worst of results for many years!! – you do the maths!!
The winning Kinross rink was skipped by David Clydesdale being 9 shots up and the trophy was timidly presented to David by President Alastair – must do better next season!!
Not all was lost as David presented outdoor trophy to President Alastair.

Dunfermline v Broomhall
Unfortunately, on 1 February, Broomhall could again only field 2 rinks. Dunfermline managed to win the match by 20 shots to 7. The scores were J Barr 10 Ross Muir 4 and R Stevenson 10 Ian McFarlane 3. Congratulations to Robbie’s rink of A Hempseed, A Noble and G Stewart.

Dunfermline v Orwell
This match took place on Tuesday 19 January :-Dunfermline Skip, Robbie Stevenson, played Orwell Skip, Willie Paterson and Willie won with a score of 7 shots to 3. Dunfermline Skip, Jim Barr, played Orwell Skip, Johnny Nelson again winning with a score of 9 shots to 5. Dunfermline Skip, Jim Stevenson, played Orwell Skip, Ian Robertson with that game resulting in a peel – 9 shots each. Dunfermline Skip, Dave Thomson, played Orwell Skip, Callum Forshaw and won with a score of 11 shots to 5. The above results ended with a combined score of Dunfermline 32 Orwell 26. The highest scoring rink on winning side was Dave Thomson, Alan Barr, Stewart Barr & Ian Simpson – well done!

Outdoor Match against Kinross
At very short notice this match took place on Sun 17 January: – Rink A was Robbie Stevenson, Jim Stevenson, Jim Barr & Jamie Stevenson who defeated Dougie Rodgers’ Kinross Rink, with a winning score of 14 – 3. Rink B was Alastair Noble, Alan Barr, Rab Stevenson & Colin Low who defeated Peter Malcolm’s Kinross Rink, with a winning score of 8 – 7. The above scores, resulted in Dunfermline Curling Club retaining the John-Jo Kenny Trophy – well done to all who competed. The trophy was presented to President Alastair at our annual indoor match on 11 March.

Neighbouring Clubs Bonspiel
This took place at Kinross on 14 January with 2 back to back sessions – 6.00 & 8.20. Unlike the last two seasons Dunfermline won this season! The first session resulted in Dunfermline being 2 shots down but the second session rinks did very well in ensuring the Dunfermline win. The results were: 6.00 Session – D Thomson 7 Aberdour 8, J Stevenson 11 Bank of Scotland Fife 7, J Barr 7 Boreland 5 and C Low 3 Tulliallan 10 (Dunfermline 28 shots N C rinks 30 shots)) 8.20 Session – G Barr 7 Broomhall 8, D Templeton 10 J Skelton 4, M Silvera12 Dunfermline Ladies 3 and R Stevenson 7 R Tait 3 (Dunfermline 36 shots N C rinks 18 shots) Overall Dunfermline won by 64 shots to 48 shots. Congratulations to the highest up Dunfermline rink of Martin Silvera, Stuart Rennie, Graeme Rae and J Craig.

Dunfermline v Markinch
This match was played on 4 January. 3 Dunfermline rinks competed. The match finished less tight than last season with Dunfermline winning 24 shots to 20. The individual results were F Thomson 3 K Wilson 5, G Barr 4 R Wilson12 and Robbie Stevenson 17 R Filsell 3. Congratulations to highest up rink on winning side which was Robbie, R Park, A Bowie and J Lindsay.

Dunfermline v Boreland
This match took place on 25 November. This year Boreland again won for the second successive year. Scores were C Low 6 S Jamieson 5, D Templeton 7 I Baker 4, Robbie Stevenson 5 Bill Linton 10. Overall Boreland won by 19 shots to 18 shots. Will require redressing the position next year.

Dunfermline v Inverkeithing
Played on 25 October this year the result being exceptionally disappointing – indeed somewhat humiliating! This year’s result was 14 shots Dunfermline with 33 shots Inverkeithing. All four Dunfermline rinks lost with the results being Dougie Templeton 4 Phil Barton 7, Jim Barr 4 Bill Galloway 7, Robert Stevenson 3 Alastair Lamond 9 and finally Robbie Stevenson 3 Bob Tait 10. Congratulations to Inverkeithing, particularly Bob Tait’s rink, but we should ensure this humiliation doesn’t happen again next season. (Inverkeithing really went to town on this win both at our supper and in the Dunfermline Press)

SEASON 2014/15
Burt & Graham Trophy Dunfermline v Kinross
As the result of a recommendation made at the skips meeting and ratified by the management committee Kinross was contacted with a view to introduce a couple of rules for this competition. Agreement was reached whereby if a rink was short of a player there would be a 4 shot penalty. Additionally, it was agreed where any individual played twice they would be required to lead in the second game. It is suggested that this new ruling be noted in the blank page in the recently revised Rule Book.
Moving on to this season’s match – The result was not as close as last season’s match.
Doug Templeton and Jim Stevenson’s rinks won their games and left the second session well placed for Dunfermline by ending the first session 9 shots up (28 to 19). However, the second session left Dunfermline 17 shots down!! The final result was a Kinross win by 8 shots (Kinross 57 shots Dunfermline 49).

Dunfermline v Broomhall
Unfortunately, on 2 February, Broomhall could again only field 2 rinks. Dunfermline managed to win the match by 14 shots to 9. The scores were C Low 5 M Reid 7 and R B Stevenson 9 Ross Muir 2. Congratulations to Rab’s rink of A Barr, A Noble and Drew Thomson.

Neighbouring Clubs Bonspiel
This took place at Kinross on 29 January with 2 back to back sessions – 5.45 & 7.45. This was fraught with much difficulty for the secretary in that many of our farming members were playing in the YARA during this week – hopefully this clash can be avoided in subsequent years! Whilst making no excuses the secretary apologises profusely for a major administrative error in that 5 rinks were invited to the 7.45 session meaning a no show from Tulliallan for the first session. Fortunately Tulliallan were advised not to travel although maybe not from the rink’s perspective. The secretary apologised to all concerned who lost out on a game.
Moving on, for the second year running Dunfermline lost. In the first session Dunfermline were 7 shots down but with a good fight back in the second session the deficit ended as only 1 shots. The results were : 5.45 Session – S Barr 2 Kinross 9, M Silvers 4 Boreland 6, A Hempseed 6 Broomhall 4. 7.45 Session – D Thomson 6 Markinch 9, K Young 10 Inverkeithing 6, J Stevenson Jnr 9 Orwell 7 and C Low 11 Dunfermline Ladies. Over all the result was Dunfermline 48 shots Neighbouring Clubs 49 shots.
Congratulations to the highest up rink on the winning side of D Rodger, P Malcolm, S Kinninmonth & B Melville from Kinross. The rink had gone by the end of the second session and therefore the trophy was not presented!

Dunfermline v Orwell
Not such a closely fought thing on the night (27 January) than in previous years with Dunfermline
Eventually winning by only 1 shot – Orwell 31 shots Dunfermline 31. Good games on all 4 sheets .1 player no show from Dunfermline but as tradition dictates no penalty shots were taken by the opposing side. The results : C Low 10 W Stevenson 5, M Silvera 9 I Robertson 4, J Stevenson Jnr 6 C Forshaw 13 and K Young 7 W Robertson 9. The highest up rink on the winning side was extremely close with Colin and Martin winning 5 ends each but Colin clinched it with 4 at his last end. Congratulation to C Low, G Rae and J Lindsay!!

Dunfermline v Markinch
This match was played on 4 January. 3 Dunfermline rinks competed. The match finished in a very close win to Dunfermline by 17 shots to 16. The individual results were A Hempseed 3 shots Ronnie Wilson 9 shots, C Low 4 shots K Wilson 4 shots and finally M Silvera 10 shots R Fisell 3 shots. Congratulations to highest up rink on winning side which was Martin Silvera, Graeme Rae, Ian Simpson and Andy Stevenson.

Outdoor Challenge Vs Kinross
At very short notice this match took place on 29 December with 2 competing rinks from each club. Dunfermline had two rinks of six (Rink 1 Robbie Stevenson, Dougie Templeton, Willie Scott, John Geyer, Hamish Geyer and Eddie McFarlane) (Rink 2 Dave Thomson, Colin Low, Jim Barr, Steven Young, Alastair Noble and Doug Ritchie). This allowed Dunfermline to take turn about and enjoy the social side of Curling. Dunfermline started strongly and after the first four ends was about seven shots up, but the wheels came of the Rink 2 wagon as alcohol consumption set in. After lots of ends (number lost in haze of alcohol and mist), and when the game was declared finished, it was peeled. It was decided that Rink 2 would have to make amends, and without the hammer they stole a one and retained the trophy by 17 shots to 16.

Dunfermline v Kirkcaldy Virtual Club
As a result of a suggestion from last years AGM it was decided to play this game on 3 December with a view to attracting new members. Unfortunately the rink was mixed and the 2 males were already signed for other clubs. It has been communicated with Kirkcaldy that the whole reason for playing was very much compromised. That said Dunfermline won 9 shots to 1 and the usual camaraderie and banter was enjoyed. The rink was A Noble, A Rae, D Ritchie and K Kilgour

Dunfermline v Boreland
This match took place on 26 November. This year Boreland, celebrating its 35th anniversary, pulled out all the stops and the first for some years Boreland won by 22 shots to 17!! The scores were S Barr 8 I Baker 7, c Low 4 W Linton 6 and finally D Thomson 5 S Jamieson 9. Boreland were so pleased with the win an article about the game was submitted to Dunfermline Press and duly published. Will require to redress the position next year.

Dunfermline v Inverkeithing
Played on 26 October this year the result was a little tighter than last year. This year’s result was 29 shots Dunfermline with 18 shots Inverkeithing. Congratulations to all rinks but particularly Martin Silvera’s rink of third R Park, second S Rennie and lead A Stevenson who won by 12 – 5 against Phil Barton. Other results were : R B Stevenson 6 T Clarke 3, D Thomson 7 A Lamond 2 and R Stevenson Jnr 4 B Tait 8.

SEASON 2013/14
Burt & Graham Trophy Dunfermline v Kinross
As is usually the case in this clash of the titans on 14 March it tends to be a rather tight affair! The first session rinks managed to pass on a one shot advantage to Dunfermline, however, the ultimate outcome was a peel – 49 shots each – an improvement from a 14 shots win to Kinross last year. Using Ryder Cup rules Kinross retain the trophy which, adhering to traditions, they duly filled with whisky and passed around.

Dunfermline v Broomhall
Unfortunately, on 3 February, Broomhall could only field 2 rinks this season! Dunfermline won by a margin and with the omission of cards the secretary is advised the winning rink was skipped by Martin Silvera ably supported by Ian Simpson, Willie Scott and Jimmy Lindsay. It is understood Martin beat Willie Thomson by 13 shots to 3 and David Thomson peeled with Ross Muir 8 shots each. The overall result, sadly, is not verified!!!

Dunfermline v Orwell
Not such a closely fought thing on the night (28 January) than in previous years with Dunfermline overcoming Orwell 39 shots to 22 with Dougie Templeton’s rink comprehensively beating Willie Stevenson’s rink 15 shots to 3. Well done to Dougie’s rink of third Rab Stevenson, second Alan Barr and lead Andy Stevenson. Other scores Jim Stevenson 2 I Robertson 6, David Thomson 11 Sandy Hay 6 and Robbie Stevenson11 Johnny Nelson 7.

Dunfermline v Markinch
This match was played on 5 January and resulted in a victory for Dunfermline by 6 shots (21-15). The results were Stewart Barr’s rink lost 7 shots to 2, Ken Young’s rink won 6 shots to 5 and the highest up winning rink of Allan Hempseed, Colin Low, Stuart Rennie and Alastair Noble won by 13 shots to 3.

Dunfermline v Inverkeithing
Played on 28 October this year the result was an even greater victory than last year. This year was 43 shots Dunfermline to 15 shots Inverkeithing – last year’s shots difference in favour of Dunfermline was only 25. Congratulations to all rinks but particularly Dave Thomson’s rink of third A Barr, second A Rae and lead A Noble who won by 15 – 5 against Bob Tait. Other results were : A Low 5 S Barr 12, I Macdonald 3 Robbie Stevenson 9 and P Barton 2 M Silvera 7.

Dunfermline v Boreland
This match took place on 8 October 2013. This year there was an increased shots difference of 7 shots overall in favour of Dunfermline (last year only 1) The scores were I Baker 5 Robbie Stevenson 6, W Linton 5 C Low 8 and S Jameson 4 K young 7. Congratulations to Colin Low’s rink of W Scott, F Thomson and D Scott which won on ends!

OUTDOOR CHALLENGE Vs KINROSS
A short notice challange was thrown at us to play outdoors at Kinross on Wednesday 12 December. As always being up for it, 2 rinks (12 members who at some point played) arrived at 6pm on the night – an exceptionally cold night. Much pleasure was had by all and whilst 1 rink peeled, in the other Dunfermline won by 4 shots. This was not perceived to have been the annual challenge involving 4 rinks and hopefully this will take place at some point during the winter. A very much appreciated gesture was the arrival of Sandy and Edna Nelson bearing gifts of mince pies and other goodies!!

MATCH Vs INVERKEITHING 29 OCTOBER
A considerable win overall!! Dunfermline won by 40 shots to 15. Congratulations to all rinks but particularly Robbie’s rink of third Ian Simpson, second Colin Low and lead Ken Kilgour who won by 14 – 5 against Phil Barton. Other results were : Dave Thomson 6 Bob Tait 4, Martin Silvera 8 Douglas Murray 2, and Jim Barr 12 Bob Smith 4.

MATCH Vs BORELAND 2 OCTOBER
Only 1 shot of a difference overall in favour of Dunfermline with Jim Stevenson’s rink being highest up at 7 shots to 2 over David Linton. Well done to Jim’s rink of Third Robin Park, Second Willie Scott and Lead Ian Borland. Other scores Richie Knox 11 Ian Baker 8, Alec Bowie 4 Bill Linton 11.

MATCH Vs MARKINCH 6 JANUARY 2013
3 rinks took to the ice at Kinross for our annual match for the D H Shaw Trophy. Overall the result was Dunfermline 21 shots against Markinch’s 13 shots – a win for Dunfermline by 8 shots. The results follow : Jim Barr 10 D Beck 6, Alex Bowie 6 K Wilson 3, and Allan Hempseed 5 Ron Filsell 4. Well done to the highest up rink of Jim Barr (S), Ken Young, Colin Low and Grant Barr.

NEIGHBOURING CLUBS BONSPIEL 17 JANUARY
8 Dunfermline rinks set out for Perth to face 8 rinks from locally invited clubs. Unfortunately there were 2 no shows from the neighbours!!!
Overall Dunfermline retained the trophy by a margin of 14 shots.
Results were : Jamie Stevenson 11 Orwell 2, Jim Barr 10, Inverkeithing 4, Robbie Stevenson 9 Boreland 7, Dougie Templeton 11 Aberdour 2 ,Jim Stevenson 7 Dunfermline Ladies 6 and Rab Stevenson 6 Broomhall 9. Congratulations to highest up rink (+ 9 then on ends) of Jamie Stevenson (S),Dave Thomson, Stuart Rennie and Alistair Noble.

MATCH Vs ORWELL KINROSS 29 JANUARY
A close fought thing on the night with Dunfermline overcoming Orwell 27 shots to 22 with Robbie Stevenson’s rink comprehensively beating John Nelson’s rink 11 shots to 2. Well done to Robbie’s rink of Third Robin Park, Second Alan Barr and Lead Jimmy Lindsay. Other scores Rab Stevenson 4 D. Hornyak 5, David Thomson 5 I.Robertson 8 and Dougie Templeton 7 W.Paterson 6.

MATCH Vs BROOMHALL KINROSS 4 FEBRUARY
Dunfermline yet again overcame our opponents by 20 shots including 4 penalty shots for a Broomhall member ‘no show’ for the coveted Black Trophy. To the scores and Dougie Templeton took the honours with a win over Ian Watters of 15 shots to 4. Dougie’s rink was Third Willie Scott, Second Albert Rae and Lead Ian Borland – now an acclaimed International curler!!. Robbie Stevenson had a win over Ian Duffin 11 shots to 4, Jim Stevenson 5 shots to Ross Muir’s 3 shots and finally a peel 6 shots each to Jamie Stevenson and Ian McFarlane. Dunfermline 27 Broomhall 17.

Burt & Graham Trophy Dunfermline v Kinross 15 March
Unfortunately Kinross appear to have taken their recent defeats to heart. The less said about the result the better – only 2 Dunfermline rinks won!! In the first session Kinross 35 shots, Dunfermline 29 shots. In the second session, much the same, Kinross 32 shots, Dunfermline 24 shots. A comprehensive win for Kinross by 14 shots!!
