Competition Rules

Dunn Trophy, Aitken Trophy and Murray Trophy Competitions

  1. Each competition will be a bonspiel at The Ice Rink at Stirling normally involving 2 rinks from each participating club. Any Club wishing to enter only one rink may do so if it can be paired with another club for that competition. If it is not possible to pair a club it will not be included in the competition.
  2. If too many clubs enter a competition, clubs will be excluded from the draw in rotation.  The current Trophy holder will not be excluded.
  3. Notwithstanding the RCCC rules of play, any player may play once only for one other club in any competition providing that he/she is a member of both clubs.  No player may play for both teams of the same club.
  4. All competition games will be played over 8 ends or the bell, whichever comes first.
  5. (i)   All games should start with 2 teams of 4 players at the bell.

(ii)            Play can start with a 3 player team. If the fourth player starts play within 15 minutes of the bell, the penalty deduction for the offending club will be 1 end for the first 15 minutes delay; and 2 ends if the player starts play after 15 minutes and before 30 minutes have elapsed from the bell.

(iii)           If play continues with only 3 players beyond 30 minutes, the fourth player cannot start, and the offending club will have 3 ends deducted at the end of the game.

(iv)          In the event of a valid rink failing to appear, the opponents will be credited with a score of 5 ends and 5 shots, and the offending club will be held responsible for all the ice charges for that sheet of 8 persons, (whether or not a friendly or practice game is played on the sheet).

  1. The winner of the competition will be the club with the highest aggregate of ‘ends won’. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by taking into account ‘shots up’, then ‘shots scored’, and then finally ‘ends played’.

Province Medal Competition

  1. Weather permitting, this will be an outdoor bonspiel involving 1 rink from each Member Club taking part.
  1. In the event of the outdoor bonspiel not taking place, the medal will be awarded to the club with the highest aggregate of ‘ends’ having taken part in all three of the Province’s indoor Trophy Competitions. Any tie will be resolved as per the Trophy bonspiels.

Province Knockout Competition

(a qualifying competition for the National Province Competition of the RCCC)

  1. This will be a knockout competition involving 1 rink from each Member Club taking part.
  2. All members are eligible to play in the competition, but no player can play for more than 1 club.  (See below)
  3. In the event of the ‘shots’ being equal at the end of the game, the winners shall be determined by ‘ends won’, and if still drawn, by the two skips playing ‘one stone to nearest the head’.
  1. The competition will be played to RCCC rules. All games must start with 2 teams of 4 players at the bell.  (There is no provision for compromise as described above in Rule E (ii) of the Trophy competitions.)   An offending club will be held responsible for all the ice charges for that sheet of 8 persons.

NOTE: The free guard Zone will be played in all Province Competitions.

Clubs are reminded of the following extract from the R.C.C.C. Rules Section 14 The National Province Championship Sub-section (b):

“Teams shall be composed only of Members of the same Local Club and may be men or women or mixed. A Club may play in only one qualifying Province Competition in any season which shall be the LocalProvinceof which the Club is a member. Individual Curlers may be active members of more than one Province, but must declare which Province they are representing during the current season.”

Failure to adhere to the above will result in immediate disqualification.
