2017 got underway on Monday 9 January with the Graham Mixed Pairs competition. 32 curlers in 16 pairs fought out the group stages for a place in the semi-finals.
The group winners went through to the High Road semi-finals, where Last Year’s Winners beat Thornton and Kennoway beat Balcaskie. In the High Road final, Last Year’s Winners (Ron Wilson and Morag Erskine from Markinch) got a 1 on a measure at the 1st end followed by a 2 against the head at the 2nd, which gave Kennoway (Willie Nicol and Ann Munro) too much to do in the final end where they eventually lost a further 1. Willie and Ann can take consolation from their strong performance in all their earlier games, while its congratulations to Ron and Morag for the impressive feat of retaining the trophies.
The group runners-up went into the Low Road semi-finals where Hercules beat Glenrothes and Hercules Ladies beat Lundin & Montrave. The Low Road final was a close match, but Andrew & Irene Stevenson representing Hercules Ladies took the final end for a 2-1 win over David and Anne Maiden for Hercules. Congratulations to Andrew & Irene.
Thanks to everyone who took part.
