Dalgety Bay Curling Club

The Royal Caledonian Curling Club

Club History

The Beginning

In the spring of 1979, Jimmy Stoddart, a past President of Corstorphine and Edinburgh Curling Clubs, moved to Dalgety Bay. In the Sailing Club, he met and made friends with David and Joyce Suttie, members of Scotscraig Curling Club.  Naturally, one of their topics of conversation was the roaring game.  The enthusiasm of these three infected others in the Club so a keen but novice group of around twenty were introduced to the game with the assistance of Jimmy’s friend Robin McComb, a member of Corstorphine and Broomhall Curling Clubs.  The first games were often on a Monday with 9:45 starts. Nevertheless, enthusiasm was undaunted and it was decided to institute officially Dalgety Bay Curling Club by applying to the Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC) for membership. This was done on 7 May,1981 with Jimmy Stoddart as President and Joyce Suttie as Secretary and Treasurer. The application was accepted at the AGM that year.

Trophies were also very generously donated for the various competitions:

Stoddart Cup was presented by Jimmy for competition for the first league.

Suttie Cup was donated by David and Joyce for the second league competition.

McComb Rosebowl was gifted by Robin and Jeanette McComb for winners of the KO competition.
